• The Housing Society is mindful of the carbon footprint inherent to our development projects’building life cycle. We have adopted a variety of energy efficient designs and installations in our development projects for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. For instance, we take into account the building’s orientation during daylight hours, solar shading and glazing properties, and adopt passive design strategies to reduce the cooling and lighting demand of our buildings.

To benchmark the overall environmental performance of our buildings, all our housing development projects launched after 2004 are required to participate the Hong Kong Green Building Council’s Building Environment Assessment Method (BEAM or BEAM Plus) for building assessment and certification. Currently, there are 8 projects,  including Heya Green and The Tanner Hill have achieved the final rating of Platinum standard of BEAM.

Meanwhile, major rehabilitation is also being undertaken in the old estates to preserve our buildings, conserve resources and minimise wastes and environmental impact while improving the living quality of our residents. In the Quality Building Award 2008, the rehabilitation of Moon Lok Dai Ha was granted the Grand Award — Rehabilitation in the Existing Building Category commending the full-scale rehabilitation without relocating its residents. The project has not only achieved economic effectiveness, but also provided a sustainable and green environment for the residents and the local community.

  • In property management, all estates and properties managed by the Housing Society have received ISO 14001 certification in 2012. Various green measures have been introduced, such as the use of environmental-friendly materials and energy-saving equipment and devices for managing and controlling lighting, air-conditioning and lifts. Coupled with our efforts in greening, the Housing Society aims to enhance the living quality of the residents and preserve the environment. Among the many certificates and awards received by the estates are the Gold Wastewi$e Logo, Hong Kong Eco-Business Awards and Hong Kong Energy Efficiency Awards for Environmental Excellence.

In recent years, the Housing Society has been offering electric vehicles (EVs) charging facilities in its carparks to promote the use of EVs for the sake of reducing environmental impacts by greenhouse gas emissions.

  • In collaboration with the Environmental Protection Department and other Green parties, the Housing Society encouraged the residents to participate in a variety of environmental programmes and activities such as tree planting, source separation of waste and recycling.

The Housing Society also provides a healthy and eco-friendly working environment for its staff. To improve indoor air quality, the air-conditioning systems are cleaned and sanitised on a regular basis. The World Trade Centre Corporate Office has achieved “Excellent Class” standard under the Indoor Air Quality Certification Scheme of Environmental Protection Department while the Operations Headquarter at 1063 King’s Road and the Regional Office at Dragon Centre have obtained “Good Class” certification.
