Housing Society Winning Sustainable Development Corporate Award for Two Years in a Row
The Hong Kong Housing Society (HKHS) has been presented the "Sustainable Development Corporate Award" at the "Hong Kong Service Awards 2022" for integrating sustainability into its housing development and daily operations, fulfilling its corporate social responsibility to contribute to the sustainable development of Hong Kong.
HKHS Chief Executive Officer James Chan said, "It is our honour to receive the award for the second consecutive year. By upholding the core values of 'Customer', 'Quality', 'Talent' and 'Prudence' that support our corporate guiding principles, the Housing Society strives to provide quality housing to meet the needs of the community. Sustainability is woven into our corporate development and put into practice in housing development, property management and related services, as well as talent development, endeavouring to create livable homes and inclusive communities."
Dedicated to serving the people with quality housing and services, HKHS is planning and developing 25 projects, including subsidised sale flats, estate redevelopment, elderly housing and dedicated rehousing estates, which will add more than 40,000 units to the housing supply in the next 20 years. HKHS incorporates the principle of sustainable development in the planning, design, construction and operations of its housing projects. This includes the application of Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) and Building Information Modelling (BIM) in suitable projects to shorten the on-site construction time, minimise the environmental impact with enhancements to the site safety and quality control. Facilities of high energy efficiency are adopted in property management by HKHS that drive energy saving and waste reduction.
HKHS also actively promotes intergenerational solidarity for the sake of building harmonious communities. Ming Wah Dai Ha Phase 1 Redevelopment is one of such examples, in which elderly-friendly and barrier-free flats as well as units of adaptable design are provided. The whole redevelopment project will provide rental units, subsidised sale flats and Senior Citizen Residences Scheme units, which could facilitate an inclusive community for people of all ages and all abilities. Moreover, seeing that nurturing young talent is vital for the sustainable development of a society, HKHS helps unleash the potential of the young people and enrich their professional development and participation in community services, through internship opportunities, scholarships and bursaries, and activities of the HS Academy Alumni Club.
The "Hong Kong Service Awards" has been an annual event of East Week Magazine since 2005, paying tribute to enterprises and organisations that provide quality services and products, and recognising their contributions to enhancing the living quality of Hong Kong.
