Housing Society Garners Eight Awards for Excellence
in Project Planning and Construction

The Hong Kong Housing Society (HKHS) has recently been honoured with eight prestigious awards in project planning and construction, including two international accolades.  These awards serve as a testament to HKHS’s remarkable performance and achievements in providing quality housing and comprehensive project planning.  In which, six of the awards were earned by the projects of Ming Wah Dai Ha (MWDH) Phase I Redevelopment and Blissful Place, a housing project under the Senior Citizen Residences Scheme.

HKHS Chief Executive Officer James Chan said, “The Housing Society is grateful for the industry’s commendation to our projects and these awards are the icing on the cakes for our 75th anniversary celebration.  The Housing Society has been offering innovative housing solutions to address the needs of the community. It has pioneered the concept of ‘Integrated Redevelopment Model’, which was first adopted in MWDH Phase I Redevelopment project, to develop a people-centric and intergenerational community for people of all ages.  Additionally, Blissful Place, the third project under the Senior Citizen Residences Scheme, is also an innovative housing solution developed by the Housing Society.  We are motivated by the international and local recognitions for the planning and design concepts of the two projects.  Looking ahead, the Housing Society will take on its mission to ‘creating homes for sustainable living’ and will continue to incorporate sustainable designs into the planned housing projects, creating more optimal living environments.”

HKHS has recently clinched the Silver Award, the highest honour of the year, at the Hong Kong Institute of Planners (HKIP) Awards 2022 with MWDH Phase I Redevelopment project, while HKHS Planning and Development Manager, Mandy Wong, was presented with the “Certificate of Outstanding Achievement” of the Young Planners Awards.  Earlier on, MWDH Phase I Redevelopment project was also honoured with a Special Mention at the Joint Award by Singapore Institute of Planners (SIP) and HKIP for Excellence in Planning at the “SIP Planning Awards 2023”, in recognition of its innovative, sustainable and optimised project planning to cope with the challenges of land shortage and high population density, serving as an exemplar for the planning professions in both cities.

MWDH Redevelopment project is carried out in three phases based on the “Integrated Redevelopment Model”.  Completed in 2021, Phase I of the project provides 966 rental units, with one-third featuring adaptable designs that enables flexible space configurations to meet the evolving needs of residents.  Natural lighting, ventilation, aesthetics and multiple factors were taken into full account during the design process of the two blocks.  The purple and yellow palettes of the buildings create a unique “garden” community, which also assist senior residents in wayfinding.

In addition, the Blissful Place, completed early this year, has garnered the Gold Award (Architecture - Residential - Constructed) at the Hong Kong Design Awards 2023.  The award was organised by BETTER FUTURE, a global community of renowned design brands and studios, to recognise innovative designs that foster a better and sustainable future.  HKHS has also won four awards at the “Green Building Award 2023” co-organised by the Hong Kong Green Building Council and the Professional Green Building Council.  Blissful Place bagged another Merit Award and Special Citation on United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, while the Dedicated Rehousing Estate projects in Kwu Tung North and Hung Shui Kiu/Ha Tsuen New Development Area secured the Merit Award and being shortlisted as a finalist respectively.

Blissful Place offers 312 residential units with elderly-friendly features tailored to middle-class seniors aged 60 or above.  It also provides a range of one-stop services, including medical and care services, recreational facilities, and residential care home for elderly to achieve ageing in place.
