HKHS Earns Multiple Accolades in International Elderly Care Award
The Hong Kong Housing Society (HKHS) is pleased to receive multiple honours at the 13th Asia Pacific Eldercare Innovation Awards 2025 organised by Ageing Asia in Singapore, clinching two grand prizes for its efforts in fostering community mutual support networks and promoting active ageing programmes in its rental estates.
HKHS Chief Executive Officer James Chan said, “The Housing Society is deeply delighted and encouraged by the international industry’s repeated recognition of our efforts in fostering community support networks and providing housing and care services for the elderly. In addition to addressing the physical and mental needs of the elderly in a holistic manner, the Housing Society continues to evolve with the times and has extended the concept of ageing in place to create an intergenerational living circle that enhances the well-being of different generations in the community.”
HKHS was awarded the “Innovation of the Year - Social Capital Development” for its project “Social Capital Building in the Community Through Estate-based Social Support Model”. The project leverages the multi-disciplinary “Caring, Engaging and Smart” (CES) team to build an estate-based community support network, providing housing, health and social networking support services to elderly tenants in HKHS’s rental estates. By training residents to become volunteers and organising a variety of activities to connect with the elderly, the project has fostered neighbourhood mutual support and built social capital. As of the end of February this year, CES team has trained more than 1,600 resident volunteers to support the elderly and residents in need.
HKHS also won the “Innovation of the Year – Active Aging – Health & Wellbeing Programme” for its collaboration with the Physical Fitness Association of Hong Kong, China on the “Jockey Club Elders Get Active Fitness Campaign” and the “Jockey Club Active Elders Programme – Fitness Fun Yard”. Through these programmes, HKHS distributed “Wonder Boxes”, which contain lightweight fitness tools and teaching kits, to elderly tenants in its rental estates in a bid to encourage them to maintain a good exercise routine at home. The programmes also provided health assessments and physical training for more than 2,500 elderly people and “Gerontech Corners” were set up in the elderly lounges of HKHS’s rental estates encouraging the elderly to enjoy sportainment through gerontechnology and interactive games.
Additionally, HKHS Social and Elderly Wellness Director Dr Carmen Ng was named one of the “Ageing Asia Global Ageing Influencers”. Three other HKHS projects were also shortlisted as finalists in various award categories. The “Vertical Model of Continuing Care Retirement Communities” under the “Senior Citizen Residences Scheme” was shortlisted for the “Operator of the Year – Senior Living” award. The “Living Lab in Gerontechnology for Age-Friendly Home”, empowering co-vengers to promote Innov-age Home, was shortlisted for the “Innovation of the Year – Active Ageing – Intergenerational Programme” award. Furthermore, the “ArtLife Communities in Cheerful Court project”, which enables the elderly to cultivate an interest in art to enhance their physical and mental health, was shortlisted for the “Facility of the Year – Active Ageing (Residential)” award.
Dubbed the “Oscars” in the eldercare sector, the “Asia Pacific Eldercare Innovation Awards” is an annual award established in 2013 to recognise outstanding operators and leaders in the Asia Pacific eldercare sector who drive ageing innovation and transforming care solutions for the elderly with insight. This year, the Awards attracted a record-breaking 350 entries from 14 countries and regions across the globe.
